Why in the world are Facebook games so popular? Everywhere you look on the world’s number one social network, there are invites from friends to join them in this or that Facebook game. Plenty of people don’t even set the game apps to not post every single thing they do in game on their Wall. My auntie in Tacoma, for example, gives the entire interested public the complete play by play of every item she finds, gives, or receives in Farmville (Zynga) and she never hesitates to send requests through the app to as many friends as she can check off in the boxes for invitations. I once tried gently thanking her for an invite, explaining that I don’t play any of the games. She seemed to get it, and I didn’t get another invite for at least three days. But then it all started back up again and now I get them every day.

So what makes the Facebook games so great? Let’s look at some data in the following infographic:

Everyone’s playing mobile games on their iOS and Android powered devices, and the numbers of downloads continue to soar, even as paid games are growing less and less popular. If more people are downloading free apps than paid ones, then how are developers making any money? There are several ways that the most popular free mobile games rake in the big bucks. Here are just a few.

While it’s true that many developers offer free game apps for the mobile platform, it’s also true that most of them already have a few mega successful paid apps under their belts. They actually use the “free version” of a popular paid game to help lure people into buying the full version with more levels and/or better graphics. There are also many games supported by ads, either directly or very discreetly via special arrangements with other popular digital or media related properties. Check out this infographic to see how your favorite free game makes money.

For many sufferers, Angry Birds addiction happens all too quickly. “Angry Birds Addiction Syndrome” has created a lot of unhappy campers who have tried countless ways to shake the monkey from their backs, even going to the extreme of deleting the game from their devices after the first bout of addiction sets in. But most of those attempts are unsuccessful and usually end with the person giving in and re-downloading the game, or even buying it again.

Are you susceptible to Angry Birds addiction? The demographic segment of the population who is more likely to fall victim to its allure consists of single, young men, who are 76% more likely to than older women to both play, become addicted to, and purchase paid versions of Angry Birds. Here is an infographic you might enjoy having a gander at, all about Angry Birds addiction. (Sorry, I just had to say ‘gander.’) Click to see the full picture.

Mobile gaming is making a strong statement: over the past ten years, the popularity of mobile gaming platforms has exponentially increased, and this includes not only the iconic mobile game systems like the Nintendo Gameboy and DS and the PSP, but also mobile phones, namely, smart phones like Apple’s iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4, and a vast and growing assortment of smart phones powered by Google’s Android operating system for mobile devices. It’s a fact that times are changing in the gamesphere, and most people would agree they are changing for the better. With more and more free and low cost apps available on smart phones, people can do some fairly serious gaming from just about anywhere in the world at the drop of a hat, and they’re doing just that in greater numbers than ever before. In fact, a lot of popular console games are not games brought over to that platform from mobile games and devices. Take Angry Birds, for instance: classic case of mobile goes console. Soon, it’s even going to have its own animated television show. Now, that’s marketing.

Here is an info graphic that will shine a little light on the mobile gaming scene. Click to expand and do enjoy your data.

Have you ever thought what a fun thing it would be to attend an entire weekend dedicated to playing board games with other game geeks? If so, then you might want to consider travelling to Nashville, TN in 2012 for its next big get together. Tennessee Game Days is completely open gaming convention held once per years in glitzy Nashville, TN. Attendees from Tennessee and surrounding areas, and states far and wide gather for three whole days of exciting gaming. Almost any board and card game you could imagine will be available for playing, and you never have to worry about finding someone to match skills with.

This event is focused on open gaming — which means the kinds of games here will include anything and everything that you can find an opponent to go up against. Event attendees most often tend to play family strategy games or Eurogames. These types of games can be completed in about an hour or two and feature decision making throughout the duration. They keenly focus on player interactions rather than player elimination. The Settlers of Catan and Power Grid are two examples of games of this classification. Beyond those two games and that style you can find modern games of conflict too are well represented; these are games like History of the World, or Twilight Imperium.

You will be disappointed if you hope to find miniatures games like Warhammer or collectible card games like Magic: the Gathering or Pokemon. There are lots of other venues you can attend throughout the year in various parts of the country that focus on these kinds of games, so keep watching the conventions circuit for more information.

The Tennessee Game Players Association that sponsors the yearly event is a non-profit organization formed in 2009 to help promote gaming in the mid-south region. The TGPA hopes that the many cognitive and educational benefits associated with strategy board games will increase their popularity with the general public. The event is a great success each year, and it is expected there will be a large turnout in 2012. To learn more, simply Google Tennessee Game Players Association and you will be directed to more info that will help you find out how to attend.

Casino game apps are some of the most popular games available for download from the iTunes App Store, whether for iPhone or iPad. If you’re unable to make it to Las Vegas, you might find it just as relaxing (but not profitable!) to kick back with an electronic version of your favorite casino game mano e iPado. Yes. I said that.

Below is a list of four of the most entertaining App Store downloads for casino games you are likely to find anywhere. If you like what you read, check them out at the App Store and try ‘em out for yourself. For the purpose of this article, we are talking mainly about apps for the iPad, although some of these may also be available for iPhone.

1. Casino HD
Blackjack, Deuces Wild, and Baccarat are just a few of the timeless casino classics in this free collection of games. It’s a bit like having your own miniature casino — right on your iPad.

2. Slot Life, Haunted Mansion
Hear and experience the story of Max and his journey through haunted Gowan Mansion in this slot machine that doubles as an RPG. Help guide Max out of the spooky haunted mansion as you play through levels of slot machines with varying themes.

3. Roulette
A 3D casino app that features three different types of roulette — American, European and French, Roulette for iPad 2 is sure to entertain. The dealer’s voice can walk anyone through the entire game.
4. Card Shark Collection
Rummy, Concentration, and Limit Texas Hold’Em are three games card lover’s won’t want to be without on their trusty iPads. Even silly kid games for old women (think Canasta and Old Maid) are in this app. The 3D graphics, music, sound effects and high resolution make this app a must for people wanting to experience their iPad casino to full effect.

These are not the only great casino style iPad apps in the App Store, but they are some of the best, in my opinion. You can do a quick search in the App Store for “casino” to learn more about great Vegas style gaming on your iPad. Then, I highly recommend you search for Dest Direct TV Deals and check out their sweet mobile site.

Las Vegas isn’t the only place to have a good time playing slot machines and video gaming for dollars. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino is located on the Qualla Boundary in Cherokee, North Carolina, and is owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Operated by Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Harrah’s Cherokee is currently the only casino in the state of North Carolina.

Traditional table games cannot be hosted at the casino in Cherokee. It does, however, boast 40 tables for games of blackjack and baccarat, where the dealers are computer monitors built into the table tops. Video poker is the only game offered at the Cherokee Harrah’s location that does not differ from the form of it found in other casinos.

Video slot machines at Harrah’s Cherokee allow the player to lock selected wheels in place and spin again. The reels with the most valuable symbols can be retained, in hopes of matching them up with more winning symbols on a consecutive spin. The Cherokee tribe has a compact with North Carolina that restricts the types of gaming permitted on their reservation casinos. This is why most of the games offered differ greatly from those found in the casinos located elsewhere in the United States. The compact with North Carolina stipulates that in order for the games to be legally offered by the tribe, they must contain some elements of skill — not strictly be based on chance.

In 2009, members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians approved the sale of alcohol in their casino. In Harrah’s Cherokee Casion and Resort areas, alcohol can be purchased between the hours of seven a.m. and two a.m. on Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, alcohol is available from midday until two a.m. Many people who visit the casino and resort enjoy alcoholic beverages and Direct Television while gambling, but the two can be an unwise combination for some people. Anyone who is considered a problem gambler should probably avoid alcohol altogether while playing games, if not avoiding the games themselves. The first glass of alcohol at Harrah’s Cherokee was served on December 29, 2009 at five p.m.

If you’ve been dreaming of an exciting getaway to Las Vegas for a vacation amid the bright lights and loud sounds of world class high stakes games and entertainment, then knowing where the best places to go are is important. Here are five of the jewels of Las Vegas that should not be missed.

1.) The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is a favorite destination for vacationers on return visits to Vegas. Featuring a realistic looking man-made beach and even a shark reef, Mandalay Bay will have you thinking you took a wrong turn in Albuquerque and wound up in the South Seas. This is a great spot for celebrity watching as well as playing the slot machines.

2.) The MGM Grand is by far the largest of casinos of Las Vegas. It is one of the best recognized casinos and hotels in the world, with the famous pair of roaring lions at the entrance. Restaurants inspired by many famous chefs like Emeril Lagasse make dining here a pleasure not to be overlooked. In the Grand Garden Arena, you can take a break from the casino noise to tune in to a live concert or catch a boxing match.

3.) At The Bellagio, there is no such word as over-indulgence. The unique combination of class and luxury come together here to set the stage for elegant gaming and entertainment. The rooms in this hotel are truly sumptuously appointed, and while you are away from your games, you will find them a relaxing place to unwind with an evening drink.

4.) From the top of a moder pyramid recreation, a world famous beam of bright light shines up into the stars at The Luxor Hotel & Casino. The whole atmosphere brings to mind the ancient world of Egyptian palaces. The rooms and dining here are truly outstanding, but if the gaming experience is your biggest draw to Las Vegas, then the Luxor is the casino for you.

5.) Caesars Palace transports you to an ancient Romanesque style of decorum with its rising pillars, carved columns of solid Italian marble, and seemingly endless ceilings. Five and twenty-five cent slots are still popular games at Caesars Palace. They will also protect your home away from away with top notch security!
